About the role and location

We have an opportunity for a Packaging Development Manager to join our Materials team at The Park site close to the M5 near Bristol.

About the role – Key Accountabilities

In this role you will lead Packaging Development; supporting both the Operations and Commercial functions. Providing end to end NPD project management, from concept to successful product launch. You will be required to deliver competitive advantage by positioning our packaging at the forefront of the market through awareness and use of technological development. 
You will continually review and improve formats to build differentiation and a hierarchy of packaging into our portfolios, whilst developing new product formats in a safe, operationally efficient, cost effective and timely manner ensuring that quality requirements and our customers’ needs are met. You will be part of a continuous improvement culture looking at all areas of packaging performance providing a source of innovation for Accolade Wines.

  • Ensure new packaging is delivered to agreed, effective performance and quality specifications and in a timely manner.
  • Operate internally and externally as the acknowledged expert in the field of packaging materials and technology.
  • Continuously investigate new ideas and material developments with a view to improving production, trade and retail package performance.  Using network and industry innovations to drive distinction into the Accolade portfolio.
  • Working with internal stakeholders and suppliers to continually review and optimise packaging and process.
  • Working with suppliers on cost reduction and development initiatives.
  • Develop rigorous and meaningful packaging specifications and be responsible for their accuracy and data management. 
  • Provide operations with technical support in order to ensure that the material specifications are fit-for-purpose, both in terms of production line compatibility, quality and trade performance. 
  • Provide and facilitate links between Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, Customer Services and Production.
  • Co-ordinate external operations new product introduction to external facilities.

About you

You will have 5+ years experience within manufacturing and related processes and be educated to degree level. 
You will be an analytical and creative thinker with demonstratable skills in project management.
You will have a full understanding of the principles of manufacturing and knowledge of technical legislation by production and sales region.
The ability to work on a number of concurrent projects, servicing a variety of internal and external customers is a necessity and being familiar with the development and implementation of business process & lean operations would be advantageous.

You will have the flexibility to work out of office hours to accommodate the occasional call with our Australian colleagues and have the ability to travel to our Weybridge Head Office, if required.
