We have a new opportunity for a Customs and Excise Manager who will report into the Head of Logistics. We are open a flexible working arrangement whereby this role can be based either onsite, hybrid or remote. 

 

This role is a full-time, permanent role. 

Key responsibilities

 

This role assumes overall responsibility for managing Accolade Wine’s Customs & Excise (C&E) compliance and for controlling a robust programme of monitoring and change management. The Customs Manager acts as Accolade’s subject matter expert on C&E matters, and as HMRC’s point of contact. Accolade Wines engage 3rd party warehousing and freight forwarders to perform processing on our behalf.

 

Top line responsibilities include:

  • Overall ownership for Accolade Wine’s Customs & Excise Compliance.
  • Create and maintain a Due Diligence Manual & Racms.
  • Ensuring Service providers complete all Customs & Excise processes and declarations in a timely and accurate manner per agreed deadlines and SLA’s.
  • To monitor declarations and payments to HMRC (or via service providers to HMRC) and ensure these are correct, duties and taxes are paid in full, on time and correctly, and that any interventions required by AW are made promptly. 
  • Create maintain a continual audit programme ensuring all C&E approvals, processes and payments are up to date and correct. 
  • To provide AW with accurate cash forecasts for upcoming duty payments.
  • Maintain a risk and action register flagging all risks to the business (financial, operational or compliance).
  • To be a process SME regarding Customs & Excise supporting other areas of the business to work efficiently and compliantly.
  • Key areas of focus: Import Vat, UKGT, CCT Excise Duty, bonded/suspended warehousing, adjustments, drawbacks, suspended movements, productions under bond, inco terms. 
     

What you’ll bring:

 

  • HMRC Alcoholic Beverages experience.
  • Understanding of legislation & regulations.
  • Bond, Import / Export experience.
  • JDE, Descartes or similar ERP/WMS systems within a Manufacturing and Distributing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strategic, high level thinking.
  • Strong risk-aware approach.
  • Ability to understand complex legislation and translate this into clear and specific impacts on our business.
