About the role

We are now recruiting for a Senior Winemaker to join our operations team in Berri. This role will provide the overall direction of and oversee the efficient and effective performance of operational activities at Berri, including ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

This role would suit an experienced and enthusiastic Winemaker and driven individual who is confident in leading a winemaking team of approximately 6-8 reports. 

You will be based at our Berri Estates Winery which is the largest combined Winery and Packaging Facility in the Southern Hemisphere with a proud heritage and world class technology.  You will be part of a committed team, working alongside passionate colleagues with an ambitious change agenda.  This is an integral site to the Accolade Wines business where you will gain exposure and experience across diverse projects and opportunities.   

This role is full-time and permanent.

Key responsibilities include:

•    Manage the winemakers input into production planning, vintage planning and expense management.
•    Work closely with the Group Winemakers to ensure effective guidance and exceptional outcomes from the site Winemaking team.
•    Be involved in establishing the vintage intake plan alongside with viticulture and winery operations. Be involved in future fruit sourcing decision making, balancing of wine/fruit against supply/demand forecasts, for the Commercial wine portfolio.
•    Responsible for site planning and development.
•    Monitor the status of all product blends produced on site and with the Winemaking teams, ensuring all bulk wine, packaging and bottling requirements are met.
•    Responsible for bulk wine and raw material inventories, including year-end and end of Vintage stock takes.
•    Engender an efficient, effective and best practice/continuous improvement approach to all Production activities, including co-ordinating of NPD, Trials and R&D projects for the responsible departments.
•    Responsible (day to day) for ensuring ongoing certification of all Risk Management Systems, including HACCP, ISO9000, ISO14000, AS4801, and engendering a culture of continuous improvement in the performance and outcomes of all these programmes, for the Berri site.
•    Be involved in ensuring effective and productive site industrial and employee relations, and the ongoing development of people, at the Berri site.
•    Carry out performance review of the employee responsible for, including setting of future performance criteria.
•    Timely, accurate and clearly expressed reporting on site operations
•    Marketing and media as required

What you'll bring:

•    A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a significant winery or related operation
•    Experience of leading a team 
•    Formal qualification in Oenology & Viticulture or Winemaking
•    Tertiary qualification in Oenology, Science, Engineering or Food Technology
•    Skills in Planning & Organisation, Problem Solving and Influencing
