We are now recruiting for a Commercial Lead Winemaker to join our Commercial Wineries team. Reporting into the Senior Commercial Winemaker, with 4 to 5 direct reports, in this unique opportunity you will be responsible for the management of a wine portfolio working closely in collaborating with teams across the site. 

You will be based at our Berri Estates Winery site, based in the Riverland.

This role is full-time and permanent.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Spearhead day-to-day winemaking operations, ensuring unwavering adherence to company policies and directives.
  • Champion and actively facilitate the career development of the winemaking team, providing guidance and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Offer unwavering support to both the Viticulture and cellar teams in coordinating the vintage harvest program, fostering seamless collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Winemaker to manage bulk wine blends, meticulously aligning them with the target cost of goods sold (COGS).
  • Exercise vigilant oversight of wine blending, additions, filtrations, bulk tanker operations, and general cellar functions to prevent any spoilage or downgrades in wine quality while minimising product loss.
  • Ensure all wine bottling and export deadlines are met.
  • Participate in structured weekly and monthly work planning meetings with senior winemaker, cellar and laboratory, 
  • Foster an environment of efficiency, effectiveness, and best practices, driving a culture of continuous improvement across all production activities, including trials, and research and development (R&D) projects for the respective departments.
  • Manage a team of direct reports with a focus on providing strong leadership, coaching, and individual development, all in alignment with our annual performance cycle, to ensure the consistent delivery of superior wine quality.

•    Experience in winemaking in a significant winery or related operation
•    Autonomy and the flexibility to execute on strategy as well as deliver excellent hands-on work
•    Demonstrated experience of delivering on continuous improvement initiatives aligned with best industry practice
